KENPO KARATE has many developmental benefits
for children such as increase in strength, flexibility, coordination, physical endurance, increased attention spans, and confidence.
KENPO KARATE is a defense system that utilizes the natural weapons of the body, such as hands, feet, elbows, and knees. More
importantly, the lessons learned in KENPO KARATE extend far beyond the training in the studio. It provides a basis for the
physical and mental skills necessary for survival at home, school, and in-between. With the confidence gained from KENPO KARATE
training, children learn that they can rely on their personal integrity and knowledge as they accept the responsibilities
of maturity.

Adults have a lot to gain from studying American
KENPO KARATE including, but not limited to, balance, agility, and coordination, strength training, aerobic conditioning, confidence,
social interaction, meditation, self-defense, and fun.
Balance, agility, and coordination: KENPO KARATE training is
filled with balance drills, stretching exercises, and other activities that serve to develop better coordination.
Strength
training: A typical KENPO KARATE workout includes push ups, sit ups, deep stances, slow kicks, and many other exercises that
build strength.
Aerobic conditioning: Cardiovascular training has always been a part of martial arts including KENPO
KARATE.
Confidence: Developing physical confidence through a discipline such as KENPO KARATE will also produce mental
confidence. Kenpo techniques are only mastered if the mind is truly focused. A mind that can accomplish a complex form knows
it can accomplish many things.
Social Interaction: Friendships can start in many ways, but those founded through mutual
respect are often some of the best. At Telluride Karate Studio, students grow and accomplish in the company of others on the
same path. Our students appreciate the achievements of others while also being appreciated in return. Not everyone in the
studio becomes close friends with each other, but even those who don't, come to understand and respect their fellow students
because everyone goes through the same challenges and struggles through the practice of this discipline, KENPO KARATE.
Meditation:
An evening spent practicing forms leaves almost anyone feeling more peaceful, content, and open to the world. This is not
a mystical claim, but an observation based on simple, personal experience.
Self-defense: Some people think that self-defense
is an aggressive response to any situation perceived as dangerous. The image of Jackie Chan beating off multiple attackers
with no fear or thought comes to mind, therefore if someone can not do the same, they dismiss the idea of self-defense. In
real life, the best trained martial artists will most likely never be attacked. This is because their self-confidence makes
them unlikely targets. Martial artists will usually choose the safest situations, due to their heightened awareness which
tends to keep them out of most sketchy situations, yet their skills and abilities are still there at all times, helping the
individual to stay calm as well as to properly evaluate whether a situation could take a bad turn. Training in KENPO KARATE
may never show itself on the surface, but that does not mean that it has not kept someone safe.
Fun: The pleasure of
seeing your body do things you did not think it could do, the pleasure of intense physical exercise, the pleasure in learning
something new, and the friendly competition of sparring are just some of the elements that make KENPO KARATE fun. Just because
you are an adult does not mean that fun should be left out of the equation.
